Waiting Together

🎶 Waiting here for you... 🎶

I know. I get it. Another article about waiting. Been there, still there. I understand, yet you can never be over encouraged in the Word. And plus what you got to lose? Patience? Time? Ha ha.

Like any other day, I was deeply immersed in a debate with my friends. On what other topic, but relationships. This day, we were discussing ‘should a woman wait for the man to pursue her or should she initiate the first move?’ It wasn’t the topic that intrigued me, but it was who on the what side that did. I was perplexed that my brother in Christ actually supported a woman making the first move. Before I could bust out the scriptures to slap him with, he said “But I look at this as a double standard-- guy likes the girl, [he] better get off his butt and pursue her, let her know he likes her. Girl likes a guy, sits pretty or petty... and hopes something happens. That’s sort’ve how it is.”

How, sway!?

We are all waiting...TOGETHER.

She’s waiting. He’s waiting. And most importantly, God is waiting.

Wayment. Isn't waiting...an one party thing?

No!

God has you beat in the waiting game. You can’t even compare your waiting time to His. Imagine you know the beginning and the end To EVERYTHING, because you are all knowing.

Got it? Good.

Now, imagine that you have the name of a person written in your hands. You’ve created a unique plan for them and created a distinct purpose, that’s engraved in detail in your palm.

The only problem is...the person hasn’t been born yet. You could easily roll some dirt together and blow them to life, but if you did that again, they wouldn’t be born of Man; in other words, they wouldn’t have a sin nature. Great.

So finally they’ve been born. Yay. We are making progress. Time for your plan to manifest. But we face another minor hurdle. We have to wait for them to come to Christ. Ughh. This isn't fun.

I could go on and on with this illustration. But you’ll have to realize this isn’t a story, but this is real life. God has been waiting and is still waiting for the plans and purpose in your life to be fulfilled. Whether it is you being born (and that included waiting for your parents to even meet), waiting for you to encounter and accept Christ, waiting for you to graduate, or even waiting for you to get married, God is waiting with you and for you.

Yet, God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.
— Ecclesiastes 3:11 NLT

In fact, the world is waiting as well.

For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.
— Romans 8:19 NKJV

We all can agree that, when we don't understand or value an idea or concept, we most likely won’t agree with it. From the Black Lives Matter movement to Christians and secular music, many people are on different sides of the spectrum based on their own knowledge or revelation of the issue.

When it comes to Christian relationships, many people assume that it is only the ladies waiting, but as we can see that’s not true. Before a man can approach a woman, he must first seek her Father. You see, a sensible man would seek God for His peace and assurance about the potential union. He wouldn’t dive into it without waiting on the Father. Most times, God doesn’t give an immediate “yes.” Men wait too.

She waits. He waits. And God waits. He waits to see how we will act and behave in this time of “silence.” To see our hearts for what it is. And to see how our relationship with Him will transform.

My soul waits for the Lord More than those who watch for the morning— Yes, more than those who watch for the morning.
— Psalm 130:6

We having been waiting our whole lives.

Waiting for the microwave to hit zero.

Waiting for the light to turn green.

Waiting for the latest Marvel movie to come out.

Waiting for Bethel Music to come tour Maryland/DC area.

There’s levels to this.

But in all aspects of our daily lives, we experience and practice waiting. And through it all, the lessons that come from waiting are often missed and/or failed.

As you wait on God for a significant other, regardless of your gender, continue to trust Him in the waiting and remember His intentions are good and pure towards you!

The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.
— Lamentations 3:25
