All Goes Down From Here
The human heart. Who can perceive it? It feels. It wants. It needs. It desires. And when time and opportunity permits, it manifests itself in the physical. Living in American culture, my heart has been presented many cultural ideologies and values that cause a war inside of me; when 21st Century values conflict with Kingdom principles. We are told to be ambitious, to better ourselves and increase our value, all while pursuing the many milestones one can experience in a lifetime. But as a son of God, we are given the mandate to “seek first His kingdom and His righteousness.”
As a 25 year old believer in American, I am consciously aware that I have many more achievements to obtain and many more milestones to reach. From finding a career, to waiting for a life partner, to moving out of my parents’ house (ya’ll realized that I put moving out last?), I am aware of the many memories I have yet to experience. Living in today’s society, subconsciously adds more pressure on me to reach these “goals.’” Indirectly, my fears and anxiety increases, as I begin fighting the thought that my life is worth less (not worthless).
I thank God for the Holy Spirit. He keeps it real with me. Tell me how it is, you know? Recently, the Holy Spirit has been teaching me a new lesson that has shifted my mind and the thoughts that are now being formed. What is the new lesson? Salvation is the greatest accomplishment you can ever and will ever achieve in life. There is nothing under the ‘son’ that one can do that is greater than saying ‘yes’ to Jesus.
Yeah. We’ve heard it before. But have we stopped to allow that thought to die in the inside of us? To truly digest the notion?
If salvation is the greatest accomplishment a person can attain, then could it be that all the highlights we look forward to experience are—secondary? That graduating college, landing your dream job, building a life with your significant other, having a family and so much more, do not compare to belonging to the Lord?
Ever since saying ‘yes’ to Jesus, my life basically went downhill. Nothing that happened before or after I said ‘yes’, could hold a candle to receiving salvation. Nothing better has happened to me. And nothing better will. Except for the rapture. That’s the next best thing. Because I get to spend eternity with Jesus.
Everything we desire to experience and do get to experience, from the time we were born until the rapture, or for some, death, isn’t necessarily bad.
It just simply means that every life experience is a promise to those that know the Lord. That being in the kingdom of God aligns you to receive many promises from God.
““So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.””
““For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.””
So as you wait for the next milestone, remember it doesn’t get better than saying ‘yes’; to Jesus.
