The State of Urban: January 2025

We One Month In, and 2025 Already Feels Like the Longest Year Ever

Baby, January had Aaron Parnas working overtime. Every five minutes?

But regardless of the chaos, one thing remains true—God is on the throne. 🙌🏾

Jan 1st, 2025

New Year’s Day? I may enter kaboshing and commanding my 2025 blessings, but best believe I’m also entering a brunch reservation. Balance.

This year, the girls and I hit up Unconventional Diner, a Michelin-star restaurant here in D.C. I had the Apple Pie French Toast, and let me just say—wow. The flavors? delicious.

For my lewk, I was on my Olivia Pope. Feeling Presidential.

Jan 5th - Jan 7th

I told myself I wasn’t catching feelings this year. Only flights. ✈️

So boom, I booked a quick escape from the East Coast cold and landed in L.A. for some much-needed sunshine. What I didn’t expect? The wildfires breaking out all over the city. Egbami! Even in the midst of chaos, the Lord stayed covering me. That favor was surrounding me like a shield.

Jan 10th

I am no longer with Metro anymore (Planet Fitness). I’m with AT&T (Club Pilates).
In other words, I am now a Pilates Princess. 💕

Listen, I thought I was strong. I thought my gym babe era would translate. But after taking a Lagree class in L.A.? My body no gree at all. I was shaking, falling, questioning my life choices. Lifting weights did NOT prepare me for this type of core engagement. But we move. I signed up for a membership, and now, twice a week, I willingly let them torture and contort my body in the name of wellness. I better be snatched by summer.

Jan 17th - 19th

Houston, we have a problem. Lamz has landed. 🚀

Lately, I’ve been obsessed with 48-72 hour domestic trips—quick getaway, no stress. Ati lo. Ati de. This time, I hit up Houston for some quality girl time with my sis Erica, cousin Dianna, and their families.

Now, y’all know I do not watch sports like that. But the Washington Commanders were playing, and Erica had me fully invested. We were watching the game at Pearl & Vine, and when they won? Baby, I was jumping and screaming like I had money on the game.

In my head, I was already shopping for game day merch. But alas, delulu is the only solulu. 😭

Book #5? ✅ Finished.

Y’all, I am 20% through my 25-book challenge for 2025. Because let’s be real—Naija girls never carry last. 📚🔥 Here’s what I read this month:

  1. When I Think of You ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  2. The Good Ones Are Taken ⭐⭐⭐⭐

  3. Only Big Bumbum Matters Tomorrow ⭐⭐⭐⭐

  4. The Partner Plot ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

  5. The Kiss Countdown ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Now, after consuming all these stories, one thing is clear—the FMCs were actually insane. Like, the men in these books? Loving, patient, husband material. But the women? Committed to self-sabotage. Every time a good thing came their way, they hit us with: "I don’t deserve this." "What if he actually likes me?" "Let me ruin everything for no reason."

Girl, STAND UP. 🫠

I was cringing so hard. Lord, I hope the ladies in real life are out here choosing love instead of running from it. Amen. 🙏🏾

Jan 31st

Today is my 34th birthday.
01.31. Mi De.
It still feels surreal. I vividly remember my 29th birthday like it was yesterday, but a lot has happened since 2020. Growth, lessons, blessings—God has truly been faithful. I took the day off from work because, duh. My itinerary? Soft life and enjoyment.

  • Morning Pilates class (because we stay committed to this hot girl wellness life)

  • A trip to The Lip Lab at The Wharf (because fine girl, no pimples)

  • And the rest of the day? Unscheduled enjoyment.

Honestly, this was the perfect way to enter 34—rested, unbothered, and surrounded by love.

Whew. That was just one month. At this rate, 2025 is about to be a movie. 🎬

What’s been the biggest highlight of your year so far? Drop a comment—let’s catch up.
